Sri Dalada MaligawaWe.
We can name the Dalada Maligawa as a religious site that the Sri Lankan Buddhists worship with great devotion. Even foreign tourists come to Sri Lanka to visit and pay homage to the Dalada Maligawa, which is believed to house the southern relic of the Buddha. Princess Hemamala and Prince Dantha carefully transported this relic to this country and enshrined it in this mausoleum built during the reign of King Sri Rajasinghe of Kandy.
Another highlight here is the annual Esala Perahera. This ten-day procession represents four deities. It is considered one of the most festive cultural festivals in Sri Lanka. Elephants and many Sri Lankan artists participate in this procession.
Furthermore, pujas are held here at all three times of the day, morning, afternoon and evening. There is also a separate traditional hevisi group that plays the hevisi for puja activities and other special occasions.
