Sri Lankan festivals

 

               Sri Lankans celebrate a number of festivals with great devotion. Festivals specific to different cultures and ethnicities are classified separately. Of these festivals, the Sinhala and Hindu New Year are celebrated with great pomp by both these ethnicities.

                                                                             The Sinhalese people take on a very new look for the new year. They decorate their homes and surroundings with clean and pure sweets. During this time, many changes also occur in the environment. The old leaves of the trees fall and new flowers and fruits appear, the crows cry, and the flowers bloom. There are also many rituals unique to this festival, such as:

*Lighting the fire.

*Eating food.



*Applying oil to the head.

There are many rituals such as.There are also a number of rituals performed by Hindu devotees, such as observing the festival, observing the Navasada, and performing various pujas.There are also many different games that are unique to this. Many New Year festivals are also held in different parts of Sri Lanka.

             We can also name the Poson festival as another special festival. In remembrance of the threefold death of the Buddha, the Buddhist people of Sri Lanka perform many great meritorious deeds by offering offerings, holding devotional hymns, and visiting religious shrines.

            The Poson festival is also celebrated with great devotion by the Buddhist people of Sri Lanka.

The Thai Pongal festival celebrated by the Tamil people is also a festival celebrated with devotion by them. They have named this as a festival celebrated for the newly harvested harvest. Similarly, the Ramadan festival is another important festival celebrated among the Muslims.Accordingly, we can name the Kandyan Esala Perahera, which is considered special and institutional, as National Independence Day. 

Furthermore, we can name the Christmas festival celebrated by Christians as a festival that they celebrate with great pomp.
