World Heritage
"World Heritage Sites" are sites that have been identified by UNESCO as places of great value to human history and culture. Sri Lanka has 8 World Heritage Sites designated by UNESCO. They are:
Ancient city of Anuradhapura
Ancient city of Polonnaruwa
Sigiriya
Goden temple of Dambulla
Sacred City of Kandy
Old town of Galle and its Fortifications
Sinharaja Forest reserve
Central highlands of Sri Lanka
World Heritage Sites are divided into 3 categories.
1.Cultural Heritage
2.Natural Heritage
3.Mixed Heritage
These world heritage sites greatly help us to protect the cultural and natural values of the world. They are also very important for the tourism industry. We are also committed to protecting world heritage sites as much as we can.
